6:30 AM: Duffer Brothers officially reveal very bad news about the duration of Stranger Things 5

The wait is finally over! After weeks of speculation and viral rumors, the official runtimes for the first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 have been confirmed.
In recent weeks, multiple leaks about the episode lengths of the final season have spread across social media. One post even claimed that every episode would run for more than an hour, while another report from Puck News suggested runtimes ranging between 90 and 120 minutes. It turns out those reports weren’t accurate.
Ross Duffer, who co-created Stranger Things alongside his brother Matt Duffer, revealed the official lengths of the first four episodes on his Instagram account. Here’s what he shared:
- Episode 1 – 1 hour & 8 minutes
- Episode 2 – 54 minutes
- Episode 3 – 1 hour & 6 minutes
- Episode 4 – 1 hour & 23 minutes
What We Know About the Remaining Episode Runtimes
The runtimes for the remaining four episodes have not yet been announced, but they’re expected to be revealed after the premiere of Volume 1.
The Duffer Brothers previously confirmed that Episodes 4 and 8 will be the longest of the season, meaning Episodes 5, 6, and 7 will likely fall below the 1 hour and 23 minutes mark.
Some fans may find these runtimes slightly disappointing, especially after rumors suggested that feature-length episodes would be included. For comparison, all but one episode of Season 4 were over 70 minutes long, with the finale running a massive 2 hours and 22 minutes.
Interestingly, this aligns with what Finn Wolfhard said earlier this year that some episodes in Season 5 would run under an hour.

Given the long three-year wait for the final season, fans were understandably hoping for extra-long episodes. Still, there’s a chance the Season 5 finale will exceed two hours, delivering an epic conclusion worthy of the show’s legacy.
Netflix will release the fifth and final season in three parts. The first four episodes premiere on November 26, over Thanksgiving weekend, with “Sorcerer” serving as the mid-season finale. The next three episodes drop on Christmas Day. The series finale, titled “The Rightside Up,” will arrive on New Year’s Eve.
